The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins (Book Review #4)
Richard Dawkins has become a little bit of a wuss. After going on an unneeded crusade against theism in a primarily Christian West, he now seems to keep surprisingly quiet when it comes to Islam taking over his homeplace. All that silence despite the fact that The Selfish Gene has so many lessons to offer when it comes to the tragedy that is caused by mass migration.
Despite Dawkins having become a wimp, The Selfish Gene is still one of the most important books that I’ve ever read. It has fundamentally changed my perspective on what it means to be alive.
It explains, in layman’s terms, the theory of evolution and how humans came into existence. It all revolves around every organism being a “survival machine” for the genes carried inside. Every human is just like a robot controlled by the genes which function like pilots. But not only that, our genes also jump from robot to robot to aim for immortality, which is made possible by reproduction.
Once I had read it, it absolutely changed how I saw myself, my family, and even the possibility for a meaning of life. The Selfish Gene is one of the books that I would label “must read”. If you haven’t checked it out yet, I highly recommend you do now.
A side note: The Selfish Gene doesn’t negate the existence of a creator — as some reviewers want to make us believe. It simply explains the theory of evolution, which does not necessarily render God’s existence impossible.
