Death Note Is Genius Storytelling
I got through Death Note a while back. The Manga was so good that I read the 12 parts within few weeks. I am currently watching the Anime that stays close to the source material. It’s a must watch for everyone looking for great storytelling.
Usually, Mangas and Animes are a bit to childlike for me. I never got into it and rejected it as “kids stuff”. By accident, I stumbled over Death Note and started reading anyway. And I have to admit, that I was absolutely wrong in turning a blind eye towards Manga.
Death Note is clever, innovative, nail-biting, and truly unique. It’s a genius masterpiece. And it’s not just for kids. The first half might be one of the best stories I’ve ever read. The second half — even though not as good as the first — is still great.
I once saw a life adaption on Netflix. It wasn’t good. But it wasn’t bad either. The fans hated it. I was stunned by that, as I thought that it was an ok flick for a rainy Sunday. But when I read the Manga, I understood why the fans rejected the Netflix version, as it completely ignored the source material and gave us a westernized teen-take on what is a truly exceptional story.
Manga fans surely know about Death Note already. But to everyone like me: Give it a chance. After the first two books, you’ll know that you are reading something that you couldn’t find elsewhere.
Also, check out the Anime if you can. Contrary to the Netflix movie, the Anime tries to tell the original story from the Manga.
